$50 for that?!?

I took Oliven in for his post-op appointment, paid the $50 copay, and the doctor looked at him for less than a minute. He said that Oliven's casts look fine, so he'll see us in 2 weeks; however, he won't be in the office until the 16th of July. Then he said that he will recast his feet at that time, even though he will have already had the casts a week longer than we were told he would, but apparently his foot braces have to be special ordered, which will take a few weeks and in order to get the right size Oliven's feet need to be measured, but not until our next appointment. Needless to say, we are frustrated because every time we go in it's $50. We don't mind paying if they actually do something, but just glancing to see if his toes are showing in the casts or picking up braces is not a $50 appointment! We also feel like we were mislead with the time line on the casting. Good thing Oliven is so young he doesn't know the difference.

Visitors and Pipes

We have had lots of visitors recently. Colby came up for my birthday on the 16th and stayed until the 19th. Jon came up the night of the 18th and stayed until the 20th. Heather came over on the 20th and brought bagels for Father's Day. Justin had a nice relaxing (or as relaxing as you can with a two year old and a newborn) day. Then, Sarah brought Emma over to hang out with Oliven.
So our bathtub still isn't fixed and we have decided to go ahead and get our house repiped with Copper Piping. It's expensive, but better to fix a $5000 problem now than a $20,000 problem later. Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday we are going to have to be out of the house. At least Justin will be here to help me on 2 of those days. Yikes.

Swim lessons

Vander is taking swim lessons with his dad as a special activity. They both love water so it's a great activity fot the two of them. Vander did really good at his first lesson. As a bonus the lessons are in Morgan Hill, so we get to see Grammy and Pops while we are down there.

Turning 29

For my 29th birthday we decided to go to Sky High and bounce, but my ankle has been hurting, so instead Justin and I went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner, and then Colby, Arielle, and Jerry met up with us at Golf Land for some minigolf. It was pretty fun. Arielle and Justin kicked our butts. Afterwards we decided to go to ColdStone for dessert, but apparently they close at 9:30 and we got there at 9:28, so we were out of luck. We decided to head over to BJ's, but there was a 35minute wait, so we headed over to Marie Calendars, but they wouldn't seat us because they closed at 10pm, so we brought it home and had a slice at our house. 4th try was the charm. :) You can't beat Chocolate Silk pie. Yum. I better enjoy the next 365 days, cause that is all I have left of my 20's. The plan is to go to New York for my 30th.
(Larry and Theresa watched the boys, which they of course loved.)

Duck races and other craziness

Sunday morning Grammy and Pops came with us to the Silicon Valley Duck Races. Vander had such a good time last year, we figured we should go again. Oliven got to come too. They only let 2,000 go this year during the preliminary races so it wasn't nearly as cool (the big 15,000 duck release isn't until 1pm, and that is during nap time, so we didn't stay for that), but it was a nice day and we had a good time.
Afterwards Justin and I were finishing up dinner preparations for dinner group that night-pulled pork. Allergies hit me like a ton of bricks and I started to not feel too good. Our dinner group friends arrived at 5:30pm and we had dinner, then all heck broke loose...Justin went to go give Vander a bath and the bathtub would not turn off! We frantically tried to figure out where the water turn-off was and what to do about it. Finally we got it off, but that means no water running to the whole house, and that is never fun.
So, currently, Justin is back to work for his first day back after staying home 7 weeks with baby Oliven; a plumber is working on the bathroom (and seemingly not having much luck since he has been here over an hour and the water is still not on); Oliven is napping; Vander is out shopping and lunching with Grammy and I am just trying to stay awake. :)

Oliven's surgery

Oliven had his surgery on Monday morning at 8:30am. He wasn't allowed to eat after 4:30am, and we had to arrive for pre-op at 6:30am. He was a hungry little man. He sucked on his pasifier and cried until he went in for his surgery and woke up crying. He went in and was put under general anesthesia at 8:20am and he was awake by 10:20. He was discharged shortly afterwards. The doctor said that surgery went well. He had both achilies tendons cut, so that when they heal they will be longer and allow the bones to go into his heals, so that he will be able to walk. Previously his heal cords were so tight that his feet were always pointed. The doctor told us to keep his feet elevated for the next month. We are making sure we do while he sleeps. His feet are back in casts for a month, and then he will be moving on to foot braces. He slept most of Monday as the anesthesia completely wore off, was super cranky all day Tuesday, but he seems to be back to himself today.

Yo Gabba Gabba party

Vander was invited to his friend Addison's birthday party with the theme of Yo Gabba Gabba. It was a messy art party, and Vander loved it. He turned himself green. He was so painted that he had to be hosed off. Oliven enjoyed watching all the people. His casts are off right now in preparation for his surgery on Monday morning.
