Block party

Last summer when we moved in we had a house warming party. At that party I was informed that they used to do block parties on our street and they were really fun, but nobody had put one together for like 10 years, so I decided it was about time to get one together. I, with the help of my neighbor Christi, decided on a date and time and made fliers that I posted on each neighbors door. It was a huge success. I would say about 50 people showed up throughout the 4-8 time period and everyone had a good time hanging out with each other. The kids had a blast. Vander took full advantage of his freedom. Lots of variety of good food was brought. Everyone thanked me for getting it together, so I believe a tradition has started...a summer bar-b-que...why not? I think an ice cream social might be in order sometime this year as well. :)

The bathroom project is officially done!

Okay, it's 95% done...We still need a shower curtain, a toilet paper holder and a hand towel ring, but other than that it's done! Yay!!! They still have to redo the patchwork from the piping, but that will be quick and easy, so I'm not stressing about that one. Our bathroom looks awesome! I'm so glad it's over!

Bye Miss Nancy

Vander had to say goodbye to his first librarian. She is being transfered. Vander has been going to her story time every week for the last year. He is really going to miss her. We all really liked her. I think that was Vander's favorite activity of the week. Hopefully we will get another good librarian! We took the top picture to put in the frame we made for Miss Nancy-with their noses in a book...Sabrina, Vander and Addison all had a different interpretation of that statement. The bottom picture is  the three of them playing with Miss Nancy on her last day at Edenvale.

Brotherly love

I am so thrilled by how much love there is between Vander and Oliven. Vander is contantly wanting to "play with" Oliven. If you ask Vander who his best friend is he says, "Oliven." It's super sweet. He loves his little brother so much. When Oliven cries in the car Vander says, "it's okay Oliven. Calm down." Although the other day I did find Vander sitting on Ollie's face because he wouldn't be quiet. He definitely earned that time out (as well as the one where he crossed the street on his own- the plumbers have been leaving the door open...not too good with a 2 year old. Granted our street is as safe as they come, and he saw his friend Nathaniel across the street, but seriously not okay!) My grandma somehow got the idea that I should punish Vander by sitting on his face so he knows how uncomforable that is (I didn't do it), so my brother, Freddie, called to tell me not to sit on my children!!!

Finally some progress

Thank goodness for Rick, the tile guy. We are finally seeing some progress on our bathroom remodel. He has to wait on Clyde for materials (the guy we hired to fix the piping, mold, bathroom), which is causing a major slow down. So, at the least the floor is looking good.

On a totally different subject...Oliven is getting his braces this week on Friday. He was measured for them last Friday. His feet are looking really good. :)

Vander has become quite the little swimmer. He can swim now-for a 2 year old. He can tread water and get around the pool all by himself with the help of a fun noodle. He can also crab walk along the wall to the steps. He's pretty good. I'm impressed. :) The swim lessons are paying off. Vander loves swimming and we have been going to pool parties/swimming playdates/swim lessons as often as possible. He's loving the summer. Oliven still can't go swimming because he's in casts, but I have a feeling he'll be a water baby too. Oliven did have fun hanging out with his buddy Jeremiah outside the water at one of the swim parties. Coincidentally swim team is really big in this area, so I think that is going to really be great for the boys when they are a little older.

Life in chaos

Currently our bathroom has nothing in it (including 2 walls missing) except a couple of holes. This is not at all what we are used to seeing. Let me back up a little...
Friday, June 25th the plumbers started the repipe.
Monday, June28th they found mold in the walls. We were told it wasn't safe to go home, so we stayed at Justin's parents' house until
Thurday evening, July 1st we were allowed back in our house.
Thursday night We came home to find maggots on the kitchen floor. Luckily they were only in the trash, not in our food. Yuck-o. Anyway, I had to paint the hall, Vander's closet and a wall in the office.
Saturday we went to look for tiles for the bathroom and a vanity. That night we went down to Robin's house for dinner.
Sunday We then went to Grammy and Pop's house to see Deb, Heather and Mitch, who were all visiting. Justin and I went to see Toy Story 3, which was excellent!
Monday, July 5th we went to a South Valley 2008 pool party BBQ, which was really fun.
Tuesday we stayed home waiting for the GE guy to fix our recalled washing machine part.
Today we went to library story time.
Tomorrow hopefully the guys will be back to work on the bathroom.

Oliven update

Not much to tell, but at his 2 month check-up yesterday Oliven weighed 13lb 3oz with his cast on (which are about 8 oz), and his head was 39.8cm- 37th percentile. They can't really check his height cause the casts are bent at the knee.

Repipe becomes a remodel.

After cutting a hole in the wall behind the bathroom a wall full of black mold became apparent. In order to fix the problem we have to redo the whole bathroom. They have to get into the wall behind the shower and tub so that all needs to be replaced, then the flooring doesn't fit anymore so we need a new floor, then the vanity won't match, so now we have to redo everything. This project has exploded and so has the cost. Bye bye savings. :(  We are lucky enough to have Larry and Theresa living so close by so we have had a place to stay for the past 4 days and 3 nights so at least the boys weren't exposed to toxic mold! We are going home tonight, and looking at all of the stuff to redo the bathroom with on Saturday.
