2 firsts in one day!

Yesterday Oliven got to go on the swing by himself for the first time. He loved it...I had no doubts that he would, as I am pretty sure that he prefers being upside-down to being right-side up. He is a motion man...swing him around and he is happy.
Last night Oliven got his first "solid" food. Solid is a bit of a stretch, since it's really baby rice cereal that is more liquid than solid, but it's on a spoon. He didn't hate it, but he didn't love it either. What a big boy!

Ollie's 6 month check-up

Oliven's current stats:
Height 2' 3.5" (84%)
Weight 16lb 8 oz (30%)
Height Circumference 17.13" (41%)

Disney on Ice

We took the boys to see Disney on Ice over the weekend...we prepped Vander by exposing him to a variety of Disney movies (which he loved). He was absolutely enthralled by the Disney on Ice show. We bought him a Mickey Mouse light spinner. Vander and Oliven both enjoyed that toy. Oliven didn't enjoy the show as much as Vander...he liked the lights, but didn't take his nap beforehand and got pretty fussy until he finally fell asleep on my shoulder. He then had a poop blowout out his pant leg onto my leg-always fun for everyone. Overall though it was a good experience, but next time I think Ollie will be staying home (if it's anytime soon).

Halloween parties

We have already attended 2 Halloween parties this year...we have one more to go and we are going to go trick-or-treating fun is that...we might have even gone to Santana Row today for trick-or-treating, but Justin's car wouldn't start this morning, so he took our car, which means we are home for the day (at least until he gets home). Justin is Green Lantern, I am Super Girl, Vander is Batman, and Oliven is Super Man. We are a real "Super Family". We figured we better dress the kids as their namesakes together while we are still able to choose their costumes for them. (Vander "Bruce" Katz and Oliven "Clark" Katz).

Pumpkin patches

We went to 2 different pumpkin patches this year-Giordano's with Vander's friends and Eusugi with Justin. Both were very fun. At Giordano's Vander got to pet bunnies and chase goats. He really enjoyed the hay tunnel as well.
At Eusugi we took a hay ride through some beautiful flower fields and corn fields. He enjoyed the Dora area of the pumpkin patch and liked looking at the 1300 lb pumpkins. We also went down a storybook path in a corn maze and Vander was enthralled.

Ollie is out of his braces full time

Now that Oliven is 6 months old he only has to wear his braces 14 hours a day, which is a big improvement from 23 1/2. He has to wear them at night and 2 hours in the afternoon during his nap. He is a happier boy. Part of that is that he isn't teething currently, another part is that he is sitting up and grabbing things, and of course not having his braces on is exciting for sure. All the sudden Oliven is now taking 2 naps a day and sleeping through the is fabulous!!! Ollie's post-it says 6 months old, Vander didn't want to be left out, so his says 2 years 5 months and 1 day.  ;)

We survived

Justin went on a business trip from October 10-14th and we survived no small part thanks to Grammy and Hannah. Thank you ladies! I never take Justin for granted, but I really appreciated him when he was gone. He is a very hands-on dad and is so good with the boys. I am lucky to have such a fabulous husband and the boys are lucky to have such a wonderful daddy!

Oliven unwrapped

So, a couple days ago Oliven started flipping over in his crib. I decided it was no longer safe to swaddle him and apparently that is what he needed...he is now sleeping soundly...1-2 naps a day and he slept through the night two nights in a row now (7:30pm-7:30am)...he apparently likes his tummy. He is happier and so am I. Knock on wood and hope that this continues!

Comfy much? My tired little men.

Vander hasn't fallen asleep in the car in a long time, but I finally wore them both out at the same time. It was super cute seeing them both fast asleep in the backseat together. Vander was even reading a book and woke up with book lines on his face.
I also wanted to post this picture of Ollie and how I found him sleeping the other day. He was trying so hard to get out of his miracle blanket, but fell asleep mid-struggle. It's just too precious not to share.

Ollie's first fight

You should see the other guy! Just kidding. Ollie actually got kicked in the face by Vander's friend Zade. Ironically he cried more when I tried to ice it than he did when he got kicked. Poor little fella. This is his first real owwie.

Workin' late

This week Justin had to work late because he was taking a class for work. He wasn't getting home until after 6pm. Because of this Vander was only seeing Justin for about 30-60 minutes in the evening. Vander was missing his dad. He went up to Justin and said, "I haven't been seeing you a lot lately." I just thought that comment was way too cute not to share. Vander is really doing well with his complete sentences lately. We are very proud parents. Not to say we aren't impressed with Ollie...he has been rolling over quite often and sleeping really well at night. He eats around 7:30pm and doesn't get up to eat until between 3am and 6am.
