Oliven is officially crawling!

Barely 7 months old and my little baby is crawling! He took several long crawling strides in a row today. Apparently having a small cold doesn't slow him down one bit! I can't believe he's already on the move!

Murder Mystery Party

The setting is 1930's England. The food: Bangers, mash, pumpkin soup, smashed peas and a trifle. The result a very fun, entertaining evening with friends. We had a murder mystery party at our house Friday night with Hannah and James, Nicole and Michael, Mark and Rena, and of course Justin and me. Justin ended up being the killer, and oddly enough he was the only one who guessed that he was the one who perpetrated the crime....coincidence...I think not. I always have a great time role playing a good murder mystery and this one was no exception. :)

Smooth like butter boys

Vander and Oliven were posing nicely when Vander decided that he wanted to hold Oliven, which turned into a headlock. Boys will be boys. I do have to say though, Ollie really held his own.

Vander 2 1/2; Oliven 7 months

Vander helps mix

This was just too cute not to post. For his help mixing, I let Vander lick the spatula. :)

Wish bone

We saved the wishbone from one of the chickens at our Thanksgiving potluck from a few weeks ago and let the boys break it to see who got a wish. Vander was a little over-zealous and pulled super hard super fast, so Oliven one. His wish was that Vander could have a truffle since Vander's wish was going to be for a chocolate dessert. We decided that Ollie's other wish should be not to poop through his diaper (since his first wish was so selfless, and he had been pooping through every morning for a while). Both wishes came true. :)

Thanksgiving

We got up and had cinnamin rolls for breakfast. This has been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember, Justin is very happy to adopt this as our family tradition. When Oliven went down for his nap Vander and I headed over to Hannah's mom's, Polly, house for a pumpkin pancake pajama party. It was very cool. Hannah is a great cook and so is Polly. I always have a great time at their house. It's very relaxed and there is tons of good food.  We stayed and played for a little while until Vander decided to spit his food into my hand which turned into him throwing up...never fun, so we headed home.
Needless to say, neither of the little ones were feeling very good for the Thanksgiving meal, but that didn't stop them from enjoying their grandparents and Uncle Mitch doting on them. They always love being the center of attention. We had a traditional Thanksgiving meal that was delicious, as Thanksgiving meals tend to be. I made sweetpotatoes, jello mold, and brought cranberry sauce and olives. I was the only one who had dessert while we were still there, pumpkin cheesecake. Oliven got to have his first meal with flavor (no rice cereal or oatmeal tonight)-mashed sweet potato. He didn't apear to love it, but he didn't dislike it either. After we got the boys in bed Justin headed out to go to ToysRUs for the blackFriday sales, starting tonight at 10pm. Overall, it was a happy Thanksgiving, despite the boys coming down with colds (so far Ollie only has a runny nose, so hopefully with the help of my antibodies, he won't get any worse).
I am so Thankful for my amazing husband and my two happy, healthy little boys. They are the light of my life and I am so lucky to have such amazing guys in my life. I am of course also thankful for my brothers, grandparents, and other family (including Justin's family). I am thankful for my friends and health.
We asked Vander what he was thankful for. He said, "Christmas." What else? "Ummm, toys, in my room." We then asked what Oliven was thankful for, "his toys, in his room." Mommy and Daddy are apparently thankful for "their room."

Busy to the max

Whew...it's time to breath for a minute. I have hosted 3 playdates and 2 dinner parties in the last 10 days and I am ready to take a little break. It was coming up to my turn to host, but I didn't realize how much I had volunteered for all at the same time! We had a Thanksgiving potluck at our house last week with Ollie's baby group. Around 40 people (including the babies) showed up. It was really fun and lots of yummy food. Then Monday we had Vander's sit-n-play at our house. Tuesday was Oliven's baby playdate and Friday was Vander's playdate.
Last night we had dinner group at our house. (It's a group of 3 couples who make dinner and hang out every month, you only host every 3rd time). We had appetizer night complete with an aperitif of dry champagne and an amuse bouche of prociutto wrapped asparagus. We also made shrimp ceviche, stuffed mushrooms, brucetta, spinach artichoke dip with toast and carrots, Indian pizza, and onion rings. They were all homemade except the spinach dip. Lots of prep, but a super delicious dinner. I'm still full this morning! We made dark chocolate covered truffles with and without mint and truffles with powdered sugar for dessert. Sadly, Vander and Oliven were both asleep when dinner group commenced last night, but this still pertains to them because we are honing our cooking skills, which they will reep the benefits of in the future, and Sandra and Ben announced that they are expecting last night. This means there will be another baby joining our group. Dinner group started out as 3 couples, and has grown to 3 couples, 3 kids and a fetus. :)

Charity Ball

I have been wanting to have a Ball party for a long time, where all the kids bring balls and play. Melanie gave this party a purpose. We had a Charity Ball (which I hope will become an annual event). The kids brought balls and played with the dads in the "Ball room" while the moms assembled boxes for Charity. We made 20 boxes for kids between 2 and 4 years old. They included 20 items- toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, washclothes, but also bouncy balls, stuffed animals, magna doodles, candy, etc.
These will make the holidays bright for the families that struggle to make ends meet. Vander decorated a card to the child that his box will be given to. I just love this idea and I'm glad that we got to be a part of it. Afterwards, we all went into the other room for BBQ'd hotdogs (thanks to Justin for BBQing).

Crawling

Here's Ollie's crawling photo. He mostly goes backwards, but he also does lots of rocking.

Oliven tries water

Oliven tried water in a sippy cup today. He wasn't sure if he liked it or not, but he went back for 4 sips before knocking it out of my hand and refusing it. Vander wanted to make sure that everyone knows he also uses sippy cups (he's tried them without lids, but he thinks tipping them over is fascinating, so we are using lids for now).

Attic

The other day Justin went up into the attic to get our Christmas paper down and Vander was very intrigued. Justin told him he could not come up the ladder because it was too high (though he eventually convinced us to let him come up and see, but with Mommy's help). Anyway, he was standing at the bottom of the ladder and he says to Justin, "Is it awesome up there Daddy?" I hear Justin say, "No, it's not awesome up here." Vander asks, "Oh, is it bad?" Justin says, "No, it's not bad." Vander says, "Oh, it's great! I need to see it. It's great up there." It doesn't have the same effect without his expression and tone, but I thought it was really hilarious and totally adorable.

Scooting and no more bottles.

Oliven is quite the traveler nowadays. He scoots backwards quite well. His favorite activity seems to be getting up on his hands and knees and rocking. He's going to be crawling in no time!
In other news we finally got Vander off bottles for good. It took us a while because we were trying so hard to get him to take his miralax and fiber and the only way he would do it was in his milk in a bottle. Oh well, better late than never right?

Baby Shower/Gilroy Gardens

I volunteered my house and to make a cake for my friend Arielle's baby shower. While that was going on at our house the guys went to Gilroy Gardens (Larry and Theresa got us season passes for the holidays-super fabulous gift!) with Jerrie (Arielle's husband) and Sabrina (Arielle's daughter). The boys had a great time and also went to hang out with Grammy and Pops before Gilroy Gardens opened. Vander always really enjoys hanging out with his grandparents. We got to see them again on Sunday for dinner.
As for the baby shower, it was really fun. Carrie and Casey are both great party planners who incorporate lots of fun things and decorations as well as good food. We helped make Arielle a scrapbook and got to color lady bug piggy banks for our own kids.

Happy Halloween

We took Vander and Oliven trick-or-treating for Halloween and they had a good time. Oliven seemed to really enjoy being carried around outside in the fresh air and getting to see lots of different sites. Vander was worried about houses being scary and would ask us if the house was going to be scary and would reassure us that it was not scary after each house. After people gave him a piece of candy he would say, "Oliven wants one too please." Super sweet, what a great big bro. He had a great time, but was pretty slow going, so we only made it down two streets.

Before we went out Justin and I made a Halloween themed dinner or monster stuffed peppers with pumpkin risotto and carrots. Grammy and Pops came over to our house and handed out candy. It was a fun night and Vander is super happy to have lots of candy.
